Martin Technology Academy Counseling Goal – To provide a comprehensive counseling program that provides tools and support to all students in becoming student leaders, lifelong learners and contributing members of society. To work diligently with all school stakeholders to remove barriers to student success and provide a safe and encouraging school environment.
Classroom Guidance – The counselor will present school counseling core curriculum addressing all student needs, as well as any district/statewide initiatives. The lessons will primarily focus on three domains: academic, career, and life skills. The counselor will use a variety of methods to deliver the lessons and will provide 30-45 minutes of instruction to each classroom a minimum of 6 times per year.
Small Groups – Counseling groups are offered 1-2 times during the school year for children that need help in certain area. Teachers, administrators, parents, or counselor can refer children for groups; however, it is only with parent permission that the student can attend the group. Each group consists of approximately 3-6 students who will meet weekly for approximately 8 weeks for 30-45 minutes at a time. Small group counseling has several benefits, primarily the group provides an environment where students can learn from one another. It is also an environment that helps the students realize that they are not alone. Some examples of group topics may include: Family Changes, Friendship, Anxiety & Stress, Social Skills.
Individual Counseling – Students may ask to see the counselor on an individual basis. The counselor helps the child process and discover tools for dealing with any academic, social or emotional needs.
Responsive Services – The counselor at MTA works closely with the school social worker to monitor attendance. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: community outreach, promoting and ensuring student safety, attending parent/teacher meetings, and any other activity that promotes the academic, social and emotional well-being of the students of Martin Technology Academy.

Q) I sent in an excuse for my student’s absence(s). Why did I receive an attendance letter?
A) Schools are required to send attendance letters after 5, 10, and 15 days of absences.
Q) Do you provide therapy for students?
A) No, for various reasons school counselors do not provide individual therapy.
